Mustangs impress at Warrior Clash despite only five participants
Mesaric, Barnard work way to second-place finishes
NEWPORT — The Mount View wrestling team participated in the annual Warrior Clash on Saturday, Jan. 3 and competed as such, like Warriors, despite only five Mustangs represented on the mats. Eighteen schools competed in the event and despite the lack of grapplers, the 'Stangs managed a top-10 finish. Team scores were unavailable.
Teams from Dirigo of Dixfield, Monmouth Academy, Mount Blue of Farmington, Deering of Portland, Skowhegan, Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft, Oxford Hills of South Paris, Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield, Brewer, Dexter, Wells, Westbrook, Cheverus of Portland, Hampden Academy, Madison, Maranacook of Readfield and Gorham, along with Mount View and host Nokomis, were among the 18 competing schools.
Anthony Barnard and Job Mesaric nabbed second-place finishes in the 145- and 195-pound weight classes, respectively, for the Mustangs, while Sierra Fonger and Jack Axsom fell in pigtail matches at 170 and 182 pounds. Chris Barnard also went 0-2 in the 113-pound class. Mount View coach Hamilton Richards said his squad forfeited in nine weight classes, but hopes to have a few team members return to action this week.

Blue 6, Brewer 4 and Hampden Academy, Central and Foxcroft "B" no score. The following is a recap of Mount View individual results:
113 pounds — Chris Barnard, MtV, was pinned by Jon Wainwright, Dir, at 0:53; and was pinned by Emily Levasseur, Mon, at 2:25.
145 pounds — Anthony Barnard pinned Terry Storer, MtB, at 1:41; beat Dawson Stevens, OxH, 12-10; and lost to Julian Sirois, Skow, 17-2, to finish second.
170 pounds — Sierra Fonger was pinned by Bryce Salisbury, Dex at 0:41 in a pigtail match.
182 pounds — Jack Axsom was pinned by Matt Krusiec, Deer, at 1:56 in a pigtail match.
195 pounds — Job Mesaric pinned Shawn Darling, Deer, at 1:33; pinned Lucas MacDonald, Dir, at 2:15; and lost to Christopher Wilson, Nok, 9-2, to finish second.
