Photo by Jacob Ouellette Chase Eldredge is heading for te New England Wrestling Championships to be held in Massachusetts on March 6 and 7.
SANFORD — Sanford High School senior wrestler Chase Eldredge, who placed fourth in the 170-pound weight class at the state meet a week ago, will now compete at the New England Wrestling Championships after finishing among the top three in his weight class at the New England Qualifier in Sanford on Saturday, Feb. 21.
The New England Championships will be held at North Andover, Massachusetts, on March 6 and 7.
Massabesic High School wrestlers who will compete at the meet are Leo Amabile (the 106 weight class), Zac Richard (145) and Mike Risti (225).
Noble High School wrestlers heading to the New Englands are Austin Shorey (120) and Otto Keisker (145).
State Class A wrestling champion Marshwood High will send seven wrestlers. They are Kyle Glidden (106), Matt Caverly (103), Brad Beaulieu (126), Justin Stacy (152), Jackson Howarth (160), Cody Hughes (170) and Brett Gerry (182).
Barely missing out on the New Englands by finishing fourth at the qualifier were Marshwood’s Sam Hebert, Noble’s Josh Grenier, Jake Martel and Joseph Pilecki, and Massabesic’s Jeff Bryan and Trevor Dalton.
Others from the area who qualified for the New Englands include Biddeford’s Austin Burnham (285) and Dominick Day (152) along with Wells wrestler Michael Curtis (220).
Wrestlers who finished first in their weight class at the qualifier were Shorey, Beaulieu, Stacy, Howarth, Hughes and Curtis.
Finishing second were Day, Richard, Glidden, Gerry Burnham and Risti. Finishing third at the qualifier were Eldredge, Amabile, Caverly and Keisker.
