Southern Maine's Del Gallo Named NEWA Wrestler of the Week


GORHAM, Maine – Sophomore Daniel Del Gallo (Gardiner, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' wrestling team has been named the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Wrestler of the Week. 

Wrestling at 157 and 149 pound, Del Gallo won all four of his bouts at the 34th Annual Max Servies Wrestling Duals hosted by Wabash (Ind.) College in Crawfordsville, Ind. Del Gallo opened with an 8-4 decision over UW-Platteville's Isaac Brosinski, before battling his way to a 10-2 major decision over Wabash's Patrick Parham. Against Ohio Northern's Matthew Gwin, Del Gallo came out on top of a 7-2 decision before closing his day with a win by fall over Calumet's Edmundo Llanez, putting Llanez to the mat in 1:21.

Del Gallo is putting together a tremendous sophomore campaign for the Huskies and presently has an outstanding record of 24-2, including nine wins by fall. One of the Huskies' co-captains this season, Del Gallo is a 2013-2014 William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete and earned NWCA Scholar All-American honors as a rookie. Including this season, Del Gallo has a career mark of 45-10.

Southern Maine, 12-6 in dual meets, returns to action on Sunday, January 25 (10:00 a.m.) at the NEWA Duals hosted by Springfield College. The Huskies are ranked ninth in the most recent NEWA Poll.
