Southern Maine Sweeps Bridgewater State and Western New England

Senior captain Sean Fagan had two big wins for USM and is 12-1 on the season.
The Huskies defeated host Western New England University Golden Bears 28-24 and then rumbled their way to a 24-18 victory over the Bridgewater State University Bears.  With the pair of wins, Southern Maine improves its dual meet record to 9-3.
The Huskies opened the day against WNEU and fell behind 18-0 after the first three matches.  Sophomore Daniel Del Gallo (Gardiner, Maine) posted the Huskies' first points scoring a 6-3 decision over Sean McAllister at 149 pounds starting a four-bout sweep capped by a major decision win by classmate Aaron Weiss (East Machias, Maine/St. Paul's School).  Grappling at 174-pounds, Weiss defeated WNEU's Bryan Burnette 11-2 to score four points and pull USM even with the Golden Bears at 18-18.  A forfeit at 184 pounds returned the lead to WNEU, 24-18, before Fagan scored a key 13-4 major decision win at 197 pounds defeating Brian Donovan.  With Fagan's win, USM trailed 24-22, and needed a win at 285 to claim the match.  Frey delivered for the Huskies, leading Carl Newman 12-2 before Newman conceded the match due to injury for the 28-24 Huskies' win.
In a nip-and-tuck match with Bridgewater State, Southern Maine trailed the Bears 15-13 after a pin at 174 pounds from BSU's Ryan Cassidy.  The Huskies reclaimed the lead as Weiss delivered with a pin of his own at 184 pounds, downing Bobby Gasdia in 3:35 for a 19-15 lead.  With the match in the balance, Fagan posted his second win of the day in dominating fashion earning a technical fall with a resounding 15-0 win over Casey Enderlin at 197-pounds.  Fagan's win, his 12th of the season, put the match out of reach for BSU. Fagan is now 12-1 this year.
