WELLS - The host team from Wells High School finished fourth at Saturday's 10-team Mid-State League wrestling tournament.
Mountain Valley scored 138.5 points and won the annual competition followed by York (127), Dirigo (118), Wells (117.5), Fryeburg (113), Lisbon (86.5), Oak Hill (55), Boothbay (33), Monmouth (25) and Madison.
Wells’ Colin Sevigney is focused at the start of his
quarterfinal match at Saturday’s Mid-State League championship.
The Warriors were led by individual champions Colin Sevigney (138) and Michael Curtis (195).
Sevigney scored a 3-1 decision over Zachary Stevens of Lisbon in the 138 final and Curtis pinned Lucas MacDonald of Dirigo in the first period to win the 195 title.
Other Wells wrestlers who had top-four performances on Saturday were Charlie Durfee (second at 126), Tommy Cryer (second at 132), Chuck Taylor (second at 220), Cullen Cummings (third at 106), Jacob Spofford (third at 170) and Caleb Chase (fourth at 120).
The Wells wrestlers will now prepare for this week's Western Maine Class B regional — at Winslow High School on Saturday. The top four finishers qualify for the Class B state championship meet on Saturday, Feb. 15 at Morse High School in Bath.
Kennebunk
The Kennebunk High wrestling team is headed to the Western Maine Class A regional on Saturday at Sanford High School.
The Rams will be led by Kyle Bonti (113), Nolan Ragnerson (120), Matt Rimmer (126), Kyle Emmons (132), Cole Hallee (138), Griffin Broughton (152), Andrew Burns (160), Pat Saunders (170), Connor Donaher (195) and Kenny Davis (285).
The top four finishers qualify for the Class A state championship meet on Saturday, Feb. 15 at Noble High.
