Huskies' freshman Daniel Del Gallo
BRISTOL, R.I. – Freshman Daniel Del Gallo (Gardiner, Maine) posted a 2-0 record in a pair of tough dual meet bouts as the University of Southern Maine Huskies wrestling team fell to No. 15 Roger Williams University 31-6 and the No. 27 Rhode Island College Anchormen 31-12 Saturday afternoon at Roger Williams University.
With the pair of losses, Southern Maine is 13-7 in dual meets this season. Roger Williams improved to 15-1 with its win over USM.
Wrestling at 149 pounds, Del Gallo defeated Roger Williams' James Carroll by decision 3-0 in his first match of the day to account for three of the Huskies six points in the match. Against Rhode Island College, Del Gallo came away with a hard-won 9-7 decision over fifth-ranked Joe Slane.
Wrestling at 184-pounds, Southern Maine junior Jonathan Deupree (Ozona, Fla./Coutryside) posted a 1-1 record. In the marquis match-up of the day, Deupree fell to No. 1 ranked David Welch of RWU in a tightly-contested match-up. Deupree fell narrowly 3-2. In his second match of the day, Deupree defeated Rhode Island College's Brohen Krsulic 3-2.
Southern Maine travels to the University of New Hampshire on Saturday (tba) for the North Atlantic Wrestling Championship.
