MDI wrestlers finish in top four at Eastern Maine Championship

WALDOBORO — Wilder Young, Abrahm Malloy and Elijah Malloy of the Mount Desert Island High School wrestling team each finished in the top four of their weight class Saturday at the Eastern Maine Championship meet Saturday at Medomak Valley High School. They qualified to compete in the state meet this weekend at Fryeburg Academy.

Young “beat two tough kids” on his way to the Eastern Maine final in the competitive 160 class, Coach Chip Dugans said. He fell to Trent Goodman of Ellsworth in the final to become PVC runner-up.

Abrahm Malloy was runner-up in the 113 class after a very close match in the finals against Zac Annis of Camden Hills. Annis won by major decision. “Abrahm had him almost pinned at one point,” Dugans said, but didn’t hold long enough for the official to call the match.

Elijah Malloy finished fourth in the 138 class, falling in the consolation final to Jack Weeks of Ellsworth.

Other team members “got their first taste of a regional meet” and good competitive experience, Dugans said.
