Middle school squads grapple with success in March 4 meets

Pine Tree Wrestling League regular season continues strong

The Pine Tree Wrestling League season has hit its stride as middle school mat squads again were in action on Wednesday, March 4.

Coaches can send results to sports@villagesoup.com. The easiest way is to take photos of the meet scorebooks with a smart phone and email those images to us.

The following is a recap of recently-reported results:

March 4
Mariners, Schooners, HAL participate in tri-meet

At Thomaston March 4, three local squads squared off in a tri-meet, which led to a mixed bag of results.

The Mariners beat Hope-Appleton-Lincolnville 66-0, while HAL defeated the Schooners 42-21. Also, the Mariners beat the Schooners 54-30.
The individual results were:

75 pounds — Eben Fagonde, HAL, beat Ben Wilson, CR, 8-4; and was pinned by Carter Fogarty, Ocean, at 1:05. Also, Fogarty pinned Wilson at 3:44.

81 pounds — Eric Andrews, HAL, won by forfeit over Camden-Rockport; and was pinned by Riley Micklich, Ocean, at 2:06. Also, Micklich won by forfeit over Camden-Rockport.

87 pounds — Austin Chilles, Ocean, pinned Joah Thompson, CR, at 2:32; and won by forfeit over HAL.

99 pounds — Dawson Allen, HAL, pinned Anunthaya MacDonnell, CR, at 1:05; and was pinned by Alex Fogarty, Ocean, at 3:03. Also, Fogarty pinned MacDonnell at 0:39.

105 pounds — Bennett Penney, Ocean, pinned Ian Henderson, CR, at 0:42; and won by forfeit over HAL.

117 pounds — Drew Kelly, HAL, pinned Henry Pharis, CR, at 0:18; and was pinned by Ben Ripley, Ocean, at 0:28. Also, Ripley pinned Pharis at 0:28.

123 pounds — Michael Yates, Ocean, won by forfeit over Camden-Rockport and HAL.

145 pounds — Logan Marriner, Ocean, was pinned by Brady Hedstrom, CR, at 2:13; and won by forfeit over HAL.

170 pounds — Brennan Harris, Ocean, won by forfeit over Camden-Rockport and HAL.

195 pounds — Tristan Reynolds, Ocean, won by forfeit over Camden-Rockport and HAL.

In exhibitions, Eben Fagonde, HAL, pinned Julian Henderson, CR, at 2:37 and pinned an Oceanside wrestler at 1:31; Andrews, HAL, pinned MacDonnell, CR, at 1:37; Allen, HAL, lost to Ian Henderson, CR, 2-0; and Kelly, HAL, pinned Brady Hedstrom, CR, at 0:41 and was pinned by Michael Yates, Ocean, at 1:37.

Mustangs participate in tri-meet

At Winslow March 4, Mount View traveled to Winslow — along with Mattanawcook — to participate in a tri-meet.

The Mustangs fell in both cases as they lost to Mattanawcook 61-42 and 42-39 to Winslow.

The individual results, with Mount View grapplers listed first, were:

81 pounds — John Clifford was pinned by Deagan Tideswell, Mat; and won by forfeit over Winslow. Clifford also beat Kristin Ray, an independent from Erskine.

87 pounds — Noah McClendon pinned Jeremy Fredette, Mat; and won by forfeit over Winslow.

93 pounds — Zachary Ward pinned Justin Richardson, Mat; and won by forfeit over Winslow.

105 pounds — Michael Cole was pinned by Travis Matero, Mat; and won by forfeit over Winslow. Cole also was pinned by Grady Reardon, an independent from Messalonskee.

111 pounds — Mark Ward pinned Shawn Clements, Mat; and pinned Reid Gagnon, Win.

117 pounds — Matt Barnard lost to Dakota Doane, Mat, 10-0; and pinned Anthony Proulx, Win.

123 pounds — Emma Fonger was pinned by Nick Larrabee, Mat; and was pinned by Eli Young, Win.

130 pounds — Jasmine Barnard lost to Chris Bean, Mat, 11-6; and beat Lexi Lint, Win, 10-3.

170 pounds — Nathaniel Fuller beat Ashley Santiago, Mat, 9-0; and was pinned by Alex Demers, Win.

195 pounds — Will Turner was pinned by Conner Burbeigh, Mat; and was pinned by Zach Real, Win.

Troy Howard hosts tri-meet

At Belfast March 4, the Lions hosted visiting Medomak and Bucksport in a tri-meet.

The Riverhawks earned a 59-32 win over the Bucks and squeaked out a 48-46 win over the host Lions.

Individual results included:

75 pounds — Marshall Sawyer, Med, pinned Koal Joy, TH, at 2:35; and won by forfeit over Bucksport.

81 pounds — Logan Jenkins, Med, was pinned by Wyatt Staples, TH, at 1:07; and was pinned by Travis Hutchinson, Buck, at 2:46.

93 pounds — Duncan Widdecombe, Med, won by forfeit over Troy Howard, and pinned Elizabeth Bernier, Buck, at 0:56.

99 pounds — Taylah Reed, Med, lost to Isaac Ham, TH, 16-0; and beat Emma Freeman, Buck, 15-0.

105 pounds — Shane Cookson, Med, pinned Cyrus Resh, TH, at 0:41; and pinned Maia Relch-Gordino, Buck, at 0:46.

111 pounds — Will Perry, Med, was pinned by Patrick Curtis, TH, at 0:37; and pinned Amelia Wood, Buck, at 1:11.

117 pounds — Eli McCollett, Med, lost to Jack Hansen, TH, 16-1; and pinned Ethan Minnick, Buck, at 2:20.

123 pounds — Jake Gess, Med, pinned Anthime Brunette, TH, at 0:45; and lost to Xavier Hamilton, Buck, 18-3.
