The Pine Tree Wrestling League season began on Saturday, Feb. 21 with Midcoast middle school squads springing into action on the mats.
Area teams followed that with meets on Thursday, Feb. 26 and Saturday, Feb. 28 and will continue action through the regional meet on Saturday, March 21 and championship meet on Saturday, March 28.
Oceanside Middle School of Rockland/Thomaston, Camden-Rockport Middle School, Hope-Appleton-Lincolnville, Troy Howard Middle School of Belfast, Medomak Middle School of Waldoboro and Mount View Middle School of Thorndike are Midcoast teams that compete in the league, which has more than 20 teams.

The East Regional, which involves all Midcoast teams, will be Saturday, March 21 in Oceanside West in Thomaston. The league championship meet will be Saturday, March 28 at Cony High School in Augusta.

Feb. 26
MMS hosts tri-meet
At Waldoboro Feb. 26, the Riverhawks hosted Camden-Rockport and HAL. MMS beat CRMS 72-24 and HAL (score unavailable), while CRMS bested HAL 48-26.

Feb. 21
HAL hosts five-team meet
At Lincolnville Feb. 21, the Riverhawks went 4-0 on the day as a team as they bested the hosts, along with Hancock, Winslow and Mount View.
Medomak bested HAL 60-18, Hancock 75-9, Mount View 76-10 and Winslow 66-18.
The individual Riverhawk results, with Medomak grapplers listed first, were:
75 pounds — Brady Carter lost to Sam Schmitt, Win, 7-5; and won by forfeit over Mount View and Hancock. Marshall Sawyer pinned Eben Fagonde, HAL.

Oceanside hosts quad-meet
At Thomaston Feb. 21, the Mariners went 1-2 on the day in matches against Monmouth, Gardiner and Bucksport.
The Mariners earned a 51-36 win over Monmouth, while they fell in identical 48-42 scores to Gardiner and Bucksport.
