Mount View qualifies three to state meet

Anthony Barnard, Lawrence, Mesaric advance from regional

WELLS — The Mount View wrestling team competed in the Western Class B championship meet on Saturday, Feb. 7 and finished 10th among 11 teams at Wells High School.

Anthony Barnard (2nd at 145 pounds), Jon Lawrence (4th at 126) and Job Mesaric (4th at 195 pounds) placed among the top four, and thus, qualified for the state Class B championships on Saturday, Feb. 14 at Fryeburg Academy.

The Western Class B team scores were: Mountain Valley of Rumford 154.5, Erskine Academy of South China 99, Fryeburg Academy 99, Oak of Sabattus 94, Winslow 89, Morse of Bath 89, Wells 88, York 84.5, Gardiner 58.5, Mount View 44 and Lincoln Academy of Newcastle 6.

The individual Mount View results, with Mustangs listed first, were:

113 pounds — Chris Barnard received a bye; beat Hannah Workman, LA, 13-8; was pinned by Devin Vigue, Win, at 0:19; and was pinned by Jon Mackaman, York, at 0:12.

126 pounds — Jon Lawrence received two byes; was pinned by Eddie DeRoche, MountVal, at 1:40; beat Nick Swanson, Mor, 7-6; and lost to Caleb Chase, Wells, 17-12 in the consolation final.

132 pounds — Jason Barnard received a bye; beat Miranda Achorn, LA, 8-5; was pinned by Isaiah Cogswell, Mor, at 1:16; and was pinned by Isaac Desrochers, Wells, at 2:32.

145 pounds — Anthony Barnard received a bye; pinned Andrew Beckwith, Win, at 1:04; pinned Mike Provencher, MountVal, at 1:28; and was pinned by Connor Smith, FA, at 3:07 in the championship final.

160 pounds — Sierra Fonger was pinned by Patrick Hopkins, Win, at 2:41 in a pigtail match.

182 pounds — Jack Axsom received a bye; was pinned by Kyle Provencher, FA, at 2:45; received a bye; and was pinned by Chad Bonti, Mor, at 3:37.

195 pounds — Job Mesaric received a bye; pinned Dylan Inman, Win, at 0:12; lost by technical fall to Jacob Truman, Gard, 19-3; pinned Austin Talgo, Mor, at 1:44; and forfeited to Mark Slusher, York, in the consolation final.

285 pounds — Chris Cole received a bye; pinned Ben Mahoney, York, at 0:38; lost by default to Coyote Freeman, MountVal; and lost by forfeit to Matt Healey, Wells.
