DOVER FOXCROFT: Lisbon slipped past Dirigo on Saturday to capture its third Class C state wrestling championship in the past five years.
The Greyhounds relied on their depth to capture the title by edging the defending state champions by 12.5 points.
''We had a good first round and they (Lisbon) fell on their face,'' said Dirigo Coach Doug Gilbert ''but Lisbon wrestled back and took a whole slew of third and fourths.''
The top four team scores were Lisbon 145, Dirigo 132.5, Dexter 129, Foxcroft Academy 87 and Bucksport 74.
Nine of Lisbon's wrestlers finished among the top four in their respective weight classes.
Eight of Dirigo's competitors finished in the top four of their divisions.
Lisbon got individual championships from Forrest Cornell at 103 pounds and Marcus Bubar at 140.
Winning individual titles for Dirigo were Brett Staples at 119, Derek Daley at 135 and John Smith at 145.
Smith recorded his school record 150th win of his career in his final match.
Foxcroft Academy's Derek Rideout won his fourth consecutive state title by capturing the 165-pound weight class.
