Belfast prevails in Eastern B

ROCKPORT: Belfast won five individual titles on the way to a convincing victory over defending state champion Camden Hills at the Eastern Class B wrestling championships Saturday.
Eleven Belfast wrestlers qualified for the state meet next weekend in Rumford. Josh Robbins (119 pounds), Jimmy Spencer (140), Kote Aldus (160), Mike Rolerson (171) and Travis Spencer (189) won their weight classes as the Lions scored 194 points, 56 more than Camden Hills.
The Windjammers will send eight wrestlers to the state meet, including 130-pound champion Murphy McGowan and 145-pound champ Jacob Berry.
WESTERN CLASS B: Mountain Valley qualified 12 wrestlers for the state championships and picked up four individual titles while holding off a challenge from York for the regional team championship at Fryeburg Academy.
Ernie Matthews (130 pounds), Derek Sicotte (140), Taylor Bradley (152) and Eddie Estes (160) placed first in their weight class for the Falcons, who scored 204.5 points. York, which got individual titles from Billy Gauthier (125), Dan Towers (135), Alex Hymanson (145), Ray Gauthier (171), and Nick Mercurio (215), was the runner-up with 185 points.
Wells finished third and had three individual champions -- Shane Daly (103), Vanya Tomesewski (112) and Jimmy Cryer (119).
WESTERN CLASS C: Dirigo won five individual titles and qualified a wrestler for the state meet in all 14 weight classes while winning the regional championship at Fryeburg Academy.
Brett Staples (119), Derek Daley (135), Jon Smith (145), Josh Palmer (160) and James Olsen (171) earned regional titles to help Dirigo edge Lisbon, 194-171.
Lisbon also had five individual champs -- Forrest Cornell (103), Josh Pomerleau (112), Marcus Bubar (140), Cam Bubar (152) and Joe Doughty (215).
